This is why you should raise your financial thermostat

Oct 04, 2019

There’s a very simple reason that raising your ‘financial thermostat’ is important.

And that’s because, if you don’t, any financial successes or windfalls that come your way will most likely be squandered.

It sounds harsh; but it’s true.

I’m pretty sure you could have given the 21-year-old me virtually any sum of money and I’d have found a way to get rid of it, and quickly.

I had no context for how or why to invest for the future, and a wish-list of things to spend money on that was as long as my arm.

How best to tackle this?

There are a number of ways.

One way is to ask yourself in your professional work not what you are getting, but what you are becoming.

Another way – and simplest and most effective way, in my experience – is to deliberately spend more time with like-minded aspirational and financial successfully people.

Whether consciously or otherwise, their behaviour and results will begin to rub off on you.

I discussed this a little further in the short video here
