This is where the BIG infrastructure spend will go

Oct 05, 2019

Australia’s population is forecast to growth to around 41.5 million by 2061.

If the present rate of growth is sustained, then we’ll get there sooner still.

The share of Aussies living in the capital cities is projected to rise relentlessly until that time, up from about half to nearly three-quarters by 2061.

For this reason Infrastructure Australia has reported that the great bulk of investment in infrastructure will be focused on the capital cities, plus a small handful of peri-urban locations close to the three main capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

While this might seem unfair, at least part of the rationale is that there will be a guaranteed return on investment in these areas.

Of course, that population growth is then redoubled into these same locations becomes a self-reinforcing dynamic.

I discussed this a little further in the short video here
