The past few years have opened up unprecedented opportunities to work remotely, live and earn overseas as a digital nomad, or to live on your own terms as your own boss. 

In this new mini-series, I discuss the 8 key principles for post-pandemic prosperity and embracing the opportunities that have arisen to the full. 

4 considerations for digital nomads

Can you live and work remotely?

If you want to, you can.

There are some great potential benefits: to travel, get new experiences, meet new people, and experience new cultures that you might never otherwise get to witness. 

Here are a few consideration to start with.

First, what can you do to earn money while living as a digital nomad using your existing skillset?

Marketing, coaching, IT contracting, or consulting, for example?

There are now ways to seek out appropriate roles online, if you know where to look. 

Second, where in the word might you like to live?

There are many choices, but some countries and cities tend to be much more suitable than others!

Some locations are so popular with digital nomads, such as Bali, there are whole communities you can join...if that's what you want to do. 

Third, what visa arrangements do you need to make, if any?

For some types of work and locations a travel visa may be sufficient.

In other cases you may need to apply for a work visa, and a number of countries now have dedicated visas for digital nomads. 

Fourth, think about any potential tax considerations of living and earning abroad. 

Tax laws can be confusing depending upon your country of citizenship and where you're thinking of living, so make sure you get all the rules clear before you commit to anything.
