Post-pandemic Principle #2: Informational freedom - choose a healthy knowledge diet

Jul 01, 2023

The past few years have opened up unprecedented opportunities to work remotely, live and earn overseas as a digital nomad, or to live on your own terms as your own boss.

In this new mini-series, I discuss the 8 key principles for post-pandemic prosperity and embracing the opportunities that have arisen to the full.

Read widely, but wisely

In the first video in this series we looked at the importance of being open to embracing new opportunities and consider alternative mentors, ideas, and education.

Following on from that, I'd say that most online media has now being detrimental to your financial wellbeing.

Don't take my word for it, by the way!

Look back at media articles over the past 20 years and you'll find that the world is always about to end for one reason or another.

Negative media skew

It's not actually the fault of mainstream media, since 'bad' or negative news naturally attracts more readers, and therefore more revenue from advertisements.

Have written media articles and blogs myself over the past dozen years, I know this is true: anything which posits a negative angle or spin naturally attracts at least 3 times as many clicks and readers, if not more.

You can analyse this and draw your own conclusions as to why it is the case...but in any case I know it's true.

Of course, the headlines tend to skew in this direction as a result.

Mainstream media and economics magazines often reports on what has happened, rather than what will happen, and through necessity take a macro or top-down approach.

Reading such information is no use for helping you to achieve financial freedom and live life on your terms, and of course nor is it designed to be.

And arguably most media is basically outright toxic.

And as for Instagram personalities...well, you know the rest!

Choose appropriate role models

So, yes, read widely, but choose your information sources wisely, which deliver you fact-based knowledge, rather than wild or biased opinions.

Indeed, switching off the media entirely may well prove to the best financial decision you can make.

Instead, find a network of role models and mentors of positive thinkers who are achieving the results and living the positive life you want to lead.

I discussed this a little further in the short video below:
