Understanding some the big structural trends can help you with your strategy.
Australia has a rapidly growing but ageing population, with about 1.7 million persons now employed in healthcare and social assistance, a dramatic increase from only 1.2 million a decade earlier.
So that’s one obvious trend that will lead to increasing demand for, for example, medical centres in the commercial property space (while the healthcare sector of the stock market has also preformed strongly in more than doubling over the past five years).
The flip side to this trend is that you could live for longer – potentially much longer – in retirement.
